Experiencing ecosystem services in operation
The OpenNESS partners are so keen they even work while on holiday. Grazia Zulian from the Joint Research Centre in Italy, went to Scotland for her holidays and teamed up with Laurence Carvalho and Jan Dick from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology to see firsthand the recreational potential of the two case study sites.
In Loch Leven (case study 16) she stayed at the Green Hotel (OpenNESS SME partner) and on bikes experienced recreational activities around the loch. Grazia then went on a five-day tour of the Cairngorms National Park (case study 9), meeting with park officials and climbing her first 'munro' - a Scottish hill over 1000 meters. Grazia said "This trip has really helped me to understand the case studies and I am sure our models will now be more accurate".
