A social process whereby researchers and policy makers come together to review the available evidence and information with a view to identifying the status and trends in some system of interest, and in order to identify appropriate response options. In contrast to pure research, assessments aim to communicate existing knowledge, so that it is made relevant and helpful to an inexpert decision maker.

Asset search for term

Ecological assets are the stocks of potential services an ecosystem might provide, given a specific structure or condition. In economic terms, these represent the ‘wealth’ of the ecosystem.
